Pregnant Radcliffe In Charity Race

World record holder Paula Radcliffe will be taking part in a race on July 4 to continue the fundraising work of the late Jane Tomlinson.

Radcliffe – whose second child is due in September – agreed to be patron of the Jane Tomlinson Appeal to raise funds for children’s and cancer charities.

The long-distance runner, who will be taking part in the Leeds 10K race for the first time, said she will only be jogging due to her advanced pregnancy.

She said it was an honour to be asked by Mrs Tomlinson’s widower Mike to take part in the fundraising event.

Radcliffe said: “Jane was such an inspiration to me. She was a really good friend and a really great person.

“I really wanted to be able to take part and this year I can. The money Jane raised in her life and the money Mike and his team have raised since is remarkable.”

The event – run for the first time in June 2007, three months before Mrs Tomlinson died after a long battle against cancer – has become an annual fixture in the athletics calendar, raising thousands of pounds for the appeal.
