A 63-year-old woman from west Wales has finished 27 consecutive fund-raising marathons, and is now hoping to enter the record books.
Expressing her joy after completing her 707 mile journey in her home town of Tenby’s Tudor Square, Rosie Swale Pope MBE said she was “tired but very very happy”.
The grandmother initially planned to end her journey in Llanelli, but in a bid to pay tribute to those who supported her, she ran an extra marathon by way of a traditional lap of honour.
She covered areas from Bristol to London and from Tunbridge Wells to Bury St Edmunds.
A jubilant Mrs Swale Pope said: “It was fantastic. I crossed the finish line in Tudor Square, in Tenby, and it was like a dream.
“The children of runners who had supported me along the way were there and the mayor of Tenby presented me with a bouquet of flowers. It was a beautiful end.
“I think the main thing is to show people that they should reach out to do what they want to do. Maybe you can’t always get there but you should always reach out. Although I am actually 63 doing something like this makes me feel as though I am really 36.”
She is now awaiting official confirmation that she is the first woman ever to run so many consecutive marathons.
