Former boxing champion Herol ‘Bomber’ Graham is hoping to set a new skipping marathon record as part of his latest charity challenge
The Sheffield legend is taking part the World Marathon Skipping Record event in aid of The Children’s Hospital Charity at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.
A former British, Commonwealth and European boxing champion, Herol completed a 24-hour skipping marathon last year. He has now set his sights on the 27-hour record set in Australia in 2003.
A team of experts from Sheffield Hallam University’s Centre for Sports and Exercise Science is helping him train for the event scheduled for May 8 and 9.
Some of Herol’s friends and local children are getting ready to join him as skipping “buddies”.
Herol said: “I care a lot about the Children’s Hospital and fundraising for the charity. As I always say, children are our future and we should give them all the help we can.
“I am keen to raise as much money as possible for a fantastic cause and want to encourage people to come down to support me and cheer me on during my record attempt. You can even have a go at skipping yourself if you want.”
