Essex runners get muddy for charity

Essex RunnersHundreds of well-intentioned runners have got extremely muddy to raise money for charity.

Nearly 250 runners took part in this year’s Maldon Mud Race in Essex – one of the dirtiest sporting events in the world.

Racers must cross the mouth of the River Blackwater at low tide – a distance of about 500 yards.

Organisers say the “Maldon Mud Race” raises tens of thousands of pounds for charity every year.

First to complete the course this year was 41-year-old James Haskey-Jones.

Speaking at the finish-line he said: “I am chuffed to bits. I have been in the top 10 before.”The worst bit was the water – the current was really strong and pushing you about.”
